Raewyn Penman
Staff Representative

I have 35 years’ experience in the early childhood sector as a teacher, senior teacher, manager and owner in early learning services in Dunedin and Christchurch, lecturing at Dunedin College of Education, and providing professional development to teachers throughout the South Island.  As well as this I have 7 years’ experience in management positions in the sport and disability sectors and in a voluntary capacity I have been a member, then chair of local and regional netball boards in Otago and Christchurch.

I was lucky enough to work alongside some strong members of the NZCA in my very first teaching position and, ever since, have been an advocate for the organisation and its role in supporting early learning services and providing high quality field-based training.  The provision of opportunities for both first and second-chance learners that Te Rito Maioha ECNZ provides and the bicultural nature of the organisation and programmes align with my personal and professional values.  I am proud to be working as part of this national team of dedicated staff.

I am currently the Regional Education Leader | Kaiārahi Matauranga ā Rohe, in Ōtautahi | Christchurch.  I lecture in the Postgraduate Infant and Toddler Learning & Development programme and am responsible for the pastoral care for the tauira in our rohe.  I am passionate about supporting tauira to be successful in their studies and to become Kaiako that have a life long love of learning and supporting tamariki to become enthusiastic learners.

My role on the Council is to represent staff views and to ensure the staff voice is heard.
