Kaiārahi | Course Leader, Kaiako | Lecturer

Biography

Role

Elysia leads a team of kaiako and is responsible for development and review of course content. Alongside teaching tauira online, she also visits them on their practicums and home centres.

Education background

Elysia started working in early childhood education right after finishing school. She has experience working in a range of ECE settings including full day childcare, kindergarten, and a community-led preschool. During this time, she has worked in leadership roles including head teacher and teaching team manager.

Research background

Elysia is committed to advocacy and research for high quality care and education services for infants and toddlers.

Teaching interests

Elysia strongly believes the youngest tamariki are the most valuable long-term resource. Since the first three years of life have lifelong implications for learning, holistic development, and identity development, it is important that all early childhood education practices, environments, and curriculums are designed in a way to nurture the precious taonga.

Within her role at Te Rito Maioha, the children are at the heart of Elysia’s teaching practice with student kaiako. Her focus is to build relationships with tauira in the online space to ensure they have a positive and successful learning journey.
