Role
Currently, Emma works as a Pouako for both Nelson and Dunedin takiwā.
Education background
Emma has been involved in education for 27 years most of which was based in kōhanga reo. She has experience working in both English and Māori immersion settings in teaching and leadership roles based in kōhanga reo, kindergarten, and private centres. Emma has also worked at Kōhanga Reo Trust as a trainer for Te Ara Tuatahi - language learning.
Research background
Emma's research focuses on Māori leadership, te reo Māori, mātauranga Māori, inclusion and human rights.
Teaching interests
Emma's interest to work alongside her own children inspired her to become a teacher. Emma strongly believes everyone has the right to equal education.
