Biography

Role

In her current role as a senior lecturer, Fleur teaches in the Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education). She supports her tauira to become successful teachers through course work, practicum, and pastoral care. She also supports her colleagues in their research projects or higher study through her research experience.  

Education background

Fleur has over 20 years of experience in the early childhood sector. She has worked as a lecturer in the polytechnic sector for the last 16 years. She has held key roles as strand and course leader focused on Tangata Whenua and Tiriti-based courses, practicum courses and more recently identity, language and culture courses.

Fleur also led the Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) programme as a degree leader.

Research background

As part of the directed study research component of her Master’s degree in 2016 Fleur reviewed the Early Childhood Education curriculum as a bicultural document ’20’ years later. Recently, she was also part of a collaborative research project focused on inclusion, equity and teacher diversity in Early Childhood Education to develop a better understanding of the barriers and facilitators that can attract and retain a diverse teacher workforce in ECE. 

Teaching interests

 As a lecturer and researcher, Fleur is committed to supporting the well-being and educational outcomes for all tamariki by supporting the professional development of a well-qualified, knowledgeable, and inclusive ECE teacher workforce.
