Biography

Role

As a lecturer | kaiako at Te Rito Maioha, Hannah teaches and learns across a range of courses in the Bachelor of Teaching – Primary. This includes participating kōrero in online conversations and supporting tauira through mentoring and visiting during field-based days and practicum.

Education background

Hannah was born in America and spent most of her elementary school experience in upstate New York. Her whānau moved back over to Aotearoa when she was 10 years old. She feels blessed to have learned from a wide range of kaiako and attending different schooling systems which enhanced her natural interest in learning and teaching. This instilled in her the desire to pursue teaching as a career where she can implement her knowledge into real world practice. 

Hannah has over six years of experience teaching in the primary sector before she started working for Te Rito Maioha in 2023. She has taught in level two, Māori-medium bilingual units in Ōtautahi, teaching in and through te reo Māori me ōhona tikanga.

Research background

Hannah is passionate about implementing Kaupapa Māori pedagogies as part of her teaching and learning practices. She is always looking at ways to embed te reo Māori and tikanga Māori in everything she does. In addition to te ao Māori, Hannah is also interested in curriculum delivery and assessment for learning. 

Teaching interests

Hannah’s teaching philosophy is based on respect and fostering responsive and reciprocal relationships to support each other. She believes it is important to know others and respect the differences to establish a strong foundation for teaching and learning.
