Biography

Role

In her current role, Roimata teaches a range of courses across stages and qualifications. Alongside teaching, she also supports the local tauira in Tūranganui ā Kiwa offering academic and pastoral support.  

Education background

Roimata began her teaching journey in 2007 as a kaiārahi (teaching and learning support) to support student teachers. Since then she has worked in a number of roles including a lecturer, programme leader, and centre manager.

Research background

Roimata’s research is focused on the ways early childhood centres can create environments that can honour Māori ways of knowing, being, and doing.  

Teaching interests

Roimata’s teaching philosophy and practice is based on aroha, manaakitanga, respect for tamariki, whānau, and hāpori. She strongly believes that tamariki should have access to education that celebrates their mana āhua ake.
