You will gain a deeper knowledge of Pacific ways of knowing and being which you can put into practice in both Pacific and mainstream early childhood centres.
This Level 5 Pasifika early learning programme is designed for all qualified or unqualified teachers who want to improve their cultural competency and more effectively engage with Pacific early learners.
In addition, you will gain a strong foundation in child well-being, learning and development in the bicultural context of Aotearoa New Zealand. Qualified ECE teachers may gain credit for prior learning.
The Pasifika early childhood education programme aligns with Tapasā: Cultural Competencies Framework for Teachers of Pacific Learners, designed to increase the capability of all teachers of Pacific learners by the Ministry of Education -Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga and Teaching Council - Matatū Aotearoa.
Some courses may be credited towards the Bachelor of Teaching (ECE), providing you with a pathway towards further study and teaching qualifications.
If you are not a qualified teacher, the programme can be studied full-time over 1 year or part-time over 2 years. If you are a qualified teacher, you can study the programme part-time over 1 year, which makes for excellent professional learning and development.
Programme delivery

Four 30-credit courses are taught over a 1-year period through online learning. There is also the option to study the programme part-time over 2 years.
Two of the courses will be taught concurrently in Semester 1 with the remaining two taught concurrently in Semester 2.
If you are a qualified ECE teacher, you may be eligible for credit for prior learning.
Completion of our Level 5 Pasifika programme may provide a pathway into our Level 7 Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) initial teacher education programme and the opportunity to further your early childhood career.
