A unique opportunity to gain a postgraduate ECE leadership qualification in collaboration with aspiring and current ECE leaders from both sides of the Tasman.


You will build your leadership skills and knowledge alongside leaders and aspiring leaders from Australia and New Zealand, learning from shared experiences, similarities and differences in the two ECE contexts. 

This diploma in early childhood leadership will develop and expand your leadership skills and thinking, from motivating and transforming teams to leading pedagogical change, positive organisations and sustainable social and educational change for children and families.

You will connect and engage with other students online, including at an online block course, as a group within the wider Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership (ECE) programme. 

When you graduate with the Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership (ECE) Trans-Tasman Initiative you may progress to a Level 9 Master’s degree, with the four courses contributing to the first part of a Master’s degree in both Australia and New Zealand.

Four 30-credit courses are taught consecutively over a 2-year period.

There are two online block courses a year (one per course), with an additional online orientation day for students new to the programme before the first online block course.

Students who graduate with the Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership (ECE) are eligible to staircase into a Level 9 master’s degree, with the four courses contributing to the first part of a master’s degree in both Australia and New Zealand.

Admission requirements
Ngā hiahiatanga tono


Students must hold an NZQA-equivalent Level 7 teaching degree or diploma and be working in an ECE service or in an organisation that has an ECE-related focus.

Students holding a Level 7 teaching diploma from an approved institution for initial teacher education need current teacher registration and evidence of at least 3 years of professional, practical or scholarly experience of an appropriate kind.
