Selection interview
During the selection process you will be required to participate in
an interview with a member of Te Rito Maioha academic staff. This interview
may be completed via electronic media e.g. Skype ™ and is designed to
make sure that the programme you have applied to enrol in is the best
one for you to complete to further your chosen career. If the match
between the programme and your career aspirations is not strong, you
will be provided with advice as to what you should do instead.
Student visa
International students must meet Immigration New Zealand requirements to study in New Zealand.

Te Rito Maioha cannot accept you into any programme or qualification if you do not have the required immigration authority to do so.
Medical and travel insurance
To enrol with Te Rito Maioha, international students (including group students) need medical and travel insurance. In line with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners Code of Practice, insurance must cover:
• All travel to and from New Zealand, and within New Zealand
• Medical care in New Zealand, including diagnosis, prescription, surgery, and hospitalisation
• Repatriation or expatriation as a result of serious illness, injury or death, including cover of travel costs for family members, and funeral costs.
Students may organise their own insurance or purchase approved insurance through Te Rito Maioha, provided by Southern Cross. To purchase Southern Cross insurance, contact Student Services on [email protected].
Fees and other costs
Information about fees and other course costs are found in the
information specific to each qualification. These costs include tuition
fees, the cost of set texts and other costs. All fees must be paid
before enrolment is confirmed.
Te Rito Maioha maintains a Static Trust in accordance with s236A of the
Education Act 1989 for the purpose of ensuring unearned student fees,
can be refunded in the event of either a course closure or cessation of
operations by Te Rito Maioha.
Withdrawals and Refunds
To receive a refund of fees, you must complete the formal withdrawal
process within 21 days from the first day of a semester. Information on
how to complete this process is found in the Student Handbook.
An administration fee will be deducted from the fees paid before any refund is made.
Students who pay a full year's fees in advance and withdraw after 21
days into the first semester may receive a refund of the next semester
less an administration fee.
Students who pay one semester's fees in advance and withdraw from that semester after 21 days will not receive a refund.
Assessment of Credit for Prior Learning
No recognition of prior learning for informal learning is offered for
the programmes that Te Rito Maioha offers for international students.
Credit transfer from formal learning is determined through a process
of matching learning outcomes from the study you previously completed to
Te Rito Maioha programmes.
If you would like to apply for credit transfer you will need to
indicate this on your application form. You will then be sent an an
Assessment of Credit application form to complete. You will also need to
provide a verified copy of the qualification you wish to have assessed
(bearing your name), a course transcript showing official results and
as much information as possible about the course learning outcomes you
wish to have credited.
If this qualification was completed outside of New Zealand you will
need to first have it assessed by the New Zealand Qualifications
Authority (NZQA). To find out more information about this process you
