Hastings Education Centre | Heretaunga takiwā ako
The Heretaunga takiwā is situated at 120 Market Street North, Hastings. Our takiwā sits below Chief Rongokako’s final resting place, Te Mata Peak. Rongokako was the grandfather of Kahungunu, the founding ancestor of the Ngāti Kahungunu people.
Te Rito Maioha staff at the Heretaunga takiwā acknowledge Ngāti Kahungunu as kaitiaki for Kahungunu. We have made a commitment to strengthen our relationships with Kahungunu ākonga, whānau, iwi and hapū so we may support their education aspirations and pathways to achieve mātauranga success, positively influencing their social, economic, environmental and holistic wellbeing (Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated Mātauranga Strategic objectives 2020-2027).

Tauira are welcome to attend:
- Study sessions throughout the semester.
- Scheduled drop-in sessions
- Group study sessions
- Regional Education Centre events e.g. Pasifika fono, Matariki celebration, Orientation dates. Keep an eye on Te Rito Maioha’s Facebook for key information.
- Professional learning development events designed for local kaiako (ECE and Primary).

Room Hire
You can hire meeting rooms at our Regional Education Centre | Takiwā Ako. To hire a room, contact us and we will let you know about availability.
