In her current role as kaiako, Jen teaches in the Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education).
Education Background
Jen brings over two decades of experience as an Early Childhood Educator. She has served as a Head Teacher at the Otago University Childcare Association. Jen remains deeply engaged with the broader Early Childhood Education community, passionately advocating for tamariki and kaiako. Additionally, she is an active member and event organiser for OMEP Aotearoa (Ōtepoti Branch).
Research Background
Jen is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Education, at Te Rito Maioha. Her Master’s thesis focuses on investigating how a small group of early ECE visiting lecturers perceive the enhancement of their mentoring skills through an Appreciative Inquiry Process.
Teaching Interests
Jen’s teaching interests encompass a strong focus on Early Childhood Education, social justice, and a strength-based approach. She believes in the transformative power of education to promote equity and social justice, ensuring that all tamariki have access to high-quality learning experiences where they feel a sense of belonging and are empowered to learn and grow. Through her teaching, she aims to empower students and communities by building on their strengths, fostering a sense of agency and resilience. Jen is dedicated to cultivating a culture of empathy, respect, and lifelong learning, where every individual has the opportunity to experience success and contribute to society in ways that feel meaningful to them.
