Role

Noreen joined the Te Rito Maioha Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) programme team in its first year in 2021 as a contract visiting lecturer responsible for mentoring and evaluating teaching practice. She visits tauira in the Bachelor of Teaching Primary and Graduate Diploma Primary programmes across the motu . She also undertakes programme development and leads research into the Primary programmes.


Education Background

Noreen has a background in senior leadership in schools, mentoring teachers and leaders, leading professional learning, visual art and art history teaching, global perspectives, literacy teaching, careers education and pastoral care. Most recently she was team leader at the Teaching Council, supporting teacher education providers to develop programmes for approval. Noreen continues to support the Council on Teacher Education programme approval panels.

Noreen was involved in establishing new schools following the Christchurch earthquakes, implementing innovative approaches to curriculum. She has led professional learning in the visual arts and arts curriculums, and played a substantial role in the INSTEP research and development project to improve the quality of in-service teacher education.


Teaching Interests

Noreen has a passion for the arts and is strongly motivated to make it accessible for all learners. She loves mentoring others and providing learning opportunities to develop and extend growth mindsets and what is possible. She is focused on what creates learning, how change occurs when we lead and facilitate with a learning focus in mind. She believes in the values of whakamana and pono to build belief and agency to realise potential.
