Role

Simon teaches the Bachelor of Teaching and Bachelor of Education programme and leads the Bachelor of Education team. This includes coordinating teaching, development, and monitoring of the programme.


Education Background

Having taught as an early childhood teacher for several years, Simon has taught in the tertiary sector in a range of institutions. He plays an active role in course development and reviews.


Research Background

Simon is an associate member of the Early Years Research Centre at the University of Waikato. Both his Master and current PhD studies explore early childhood education pedagogies that include digital learning and working theories of young children.


Teaching Interests

Simon believes in the responsibility of the teaching profession to advocate and be the vanguard for social justice by promoting quality learning opportunities and providing quality teaching for all learners. He believes in promoting equity, fairness and inclusion and valuing the heritages of Aotearoa New Zealand through Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the teaching code of ethics and standards and the implementation of the bi-cultural early childhood curriculum.
