Role

Stacey brings knowledge and experience through a te ao Māori lens, involving cultural expertise, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Māori leadership and te reo Māori me ngā tikanga. The purpose of her role is to provide a nurturing pathway of kaupapa Māori knowledge and understanding for our students, enabling them to achieve academically through a bicultural framework and become leading role models in teaching.

Education Background

Stacey has around 20 years of experience as an active practitioner in early childhood centres as well as establishing and sustaining enduring relationships with local and wider communities, iwi and hāpū.

Research Background

Stacey is working towards her Master’s degree. She is interested in children’s development, particularly during their first 1,000 days, and how this is viewed by Māori for Māori. Māori ways of knowing, being and doing are important part of Stacey’s whakapapa which motivates her to pursue research in this area.

Teaching Interests

Stacey is passionate about the role of teaching, and believes if tamariki are given the right tools to learn and develop they can reach their full potential. Stacey shares her own mōhiotanga and experience to ensure students get the best possible support, strategies and outcomes for students and the tamariki they will teach. She believes every student brings their own mōhiotanga and if she can contribute new knowledge and understanding to their kete, they will be ready to enter the teaching profession with the same passion she had when she became qualified.
