The Ceremony
Guests should arrive and be seated at least 15 minutes before the ceremony starts, as late arrivals will not be allowed entry. The ceremony will last 2-3 hours.
Please remain seated until the end as a sign of respect for all graduates.

Open forum
The open forum enables family/whānau members and work colleagues to offer congratulations and is a unique and valued part of the ceremony. Because of time constraints please ensure this is kept brief and preferably that there is only one spokesperson per graduand.
Refreshments
Following the ceremony, light refreshments/kai will be served to you and your guests/whānau.
Photography
A photographer will capture images of you during the graduation ceremony, and be made available online a few days afterwards.
Images and videos taken by the official event photographer will be provided to Te Rito Maioha for promotional use, including online and print materials.
Procedure for Awarding Qualifications
On graduation day:
- All graduands will be seated together in an organized manner, either by programme or alphabetically by surname.
- Programme cohorts will line up near the stage in alphabetical order.
- Your full name, as it appears on official Te Rito Maioha documents, will be announced when it’s your turn.
Once your name is announced and depending on your programme the following will occur:
Diploma & Certificates
- Now is your time to walk across the stage and have your qualifications conferred by a Te Rito Maioha representative.
- A photograph will then be taken while you receive your qualification.
- Leave the stage and return to your seat.
Bachelor Qualifications
- Now is your time to walk across the stage and have your qualifications conferred by a Te Rito Maioha representative.
- As you receive your degree, the Te Rito Maioha representative will take your trencher and cap
you.
- A photograph will then be taken.
- Proceed to the next representative who will hand you your qualification certificate
- Leave the stage and return to your seat
Graduate Qualifications
- Now is your time to walk across the stage and have your qualifications conferred by a Te Rito Maioha representative.
- Doff your trencher to the person presenting your certificate (i.e., lifting a right hand to touch\the front edge of the trencher and nodding slightly)
Shake hands (if appropriate)
- Collect your certificate.
- A photograph will then be taken.
- Leave the stage and return to your seat.
Postgraduate & Master Qualifications
- Now is your time to walk across the stage and have your qualifications conferred by a Te Rito Maioha representative.
- Doff your trencher to the person presenting your certificate (i.e., lifting a right hand to touch\the front edge of the trencher and nodding slightly)
Shake hands (if appropriate)
- Collect your certificate
- A photograph will then be taken
- Leave the stage and return to your seat
