Teaching is a challenging and rewarding career, where you can make a meaningful impact on future generations and help shape lives. A career in teaching is an amazing opportunity, with almost-guaranteed job opportunities throughout Aotearoa.

Te Rito Maioha students | tauira are highly valued by primary and intermediate school principals as confident and competent student teachers who become involved members of the school community.

There are two pathways at Te Rito Maioha into primary teaching and teacher registration:

Bachelor of Teaching (Primary)

Kickstart your career as a primary school teacher with confidence. Acquire real-life experiences, professional knowledge and skills to grow tamariki in your community.

Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Primary)

Advance your career as a Primary school teacher to make a difference in the lives of tamariki in your community. Progress your skillset, specialise in an area of interest and uplift your career in primary school teaching.

Our students develop a strong understanding of the profession while developing the skills to embrace te reo me ōna tikanga Māori, Pasifika culture and the cultural identities of all the tamariki you teach.

Being a bicultural organisation, our lecturers and pouako are passionate and committed to helping you build your skills and understanding of te reo me ngā tikanga Māori in an authentic manner allowing you to gain confidence and skills and genuine understanding.

A main point of difference at Te Rito Maioha is the pastoral care that we offer to ensure all our students are welcomed and supported through their educational journey. The combination of blended online learning and weekly practical field-based experience in schools means that graduates are well-prepared to become qualified, registered primary teachers and in high demand from principals.

You can study while remaining in your own community, and still be supported by skilled and responsive lecturers and associate teachers. And you’ll be in high demand! But don’t take our word for it. Have a listen to some of our graduates talk about their experiences at Te Rito Maioha.
