Hastings | Heretaunga

Role

Katrina is the Pouako for Heretaunga takiwā ako.

Education Background

Katrina has predominately been in the ECE space in both Australia and Aotearoa as a kaiako. She have also worked as a SELO provider – more recently in the evaluation, research space with a focus on Māori whānau, hapū and iwi defining what educational success looks like for them.

Research Background

Katrina has had the opportunity to be a part of a number of research projects, pilots and evaluations with a key focus on what is happening for our whānau Māori and tamariki within the education sector. Her recently completed Master of Education inquiry focussed on what whānau Māori perceive to be the most important factors to promote successful transitions from an ECE setting to “mainstream” school for their tamariki.

Teaching Interests

Katrina’s passion continues to advocate for Māori tamariki within the auraki education space. Her own practice is driven by whanaungatanga, whakapapa, whakamana and ako to learn from and alongside our tauira, tamariki, kaiako and whānau.
