As a Course Leader Kaiārahi Marautanga and Lecturer Kaiako, Sherideen is responsible for overseeing the Diploma to Degree upgrade pathway courses as well as teaching in the Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) programme. Her role includes kōrero with tauira through online conversations, assessment practices and supporting tauira through mentoring and visiting during teaching practice assessment visits.
Education Background
Sherideen has worked in the education sector for over 20 years; first as an infant and toddler teacher in an early childhood setting, then in the tertiary sector in a variety of academic roles. In these roles, she has had the opportunity to work collaboratively with Kaiako to provide quality environments for infants and toddlers as well as supporting tauira with their learning journey.
Research Background
Sherideen’s research interests include emotional literacy as a key component of social and emotional competence for toddlers. She is passionate about loving care, respect and authenticity in teaching, as well as providing high quality learning environments for infants and toddlers, underpinned by neuroscience research and key principles of attachment theory.
Teaching Interests
Sherideen values challenging tauira to be the best they can be, in order to positively impact learning outcomes for young children. She believes that actively fostering safe, trusting, inclusive learning environments will allow all tamariki and tauira to feel valued and empower them to thrive.
