Role

As a Course Leader Kaiārahi Marautanga and Lecturer Kaiako, Victoria is responsible for overseeing two courses as well as teaching in the Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) programme. Her role includes kōrero with tauira through online conversations, assessment practices and supporting tauira through mentoring and visiting during teaching practice assessment visits.


Education Background

Victoria has more than 20 years of experience in Early Childhood Education and has held various positions such as teacher, head teacher, and centre manager. For the last decade, Victoria has focused on empowering professional leaders and kaiako in many different roles. Including, varied Senior Advisor roles at Barnardos and SELO provider to Ministry of Education.


Research Background

Areas of interest and expertise: Culturally responsive pedagogy, Leadership, curriculum, cultures of thinking, Teacher wellbeing, Intentional teaching.

Currently researching:
- Social justice through the lens of access to quality early childhood education in Aotearoa New Zealand
- A comparison of mixed-age and age-segregated groupings in early learning settings


Teaching Interests

Victoria’s teaching interests are centred around the importance of ako and fostering the skills and knowledge of students and the wider learning community. Victoria prioritises incorporating diverse perspectives and identities into the learning process and creating a safe and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and encouraged to share their knowledge and thinking.
